Book of the Month

The North Arvada community is going to start a book-of-the-month program in January. We will get out word at the very beginning of the month what the book is. Our library will have multiple copies and we'll warn the Standley Lake and Olde Town Arvada libraries so they'll be prepared with lots of copies as well. Students, staff, and parents will all read the same book during the month and be able to talk with others in the community about what they are reading. At the end of the month we'll have a 'doughnuts and discussion' to wrap up that month's book and reveal the next one. Please join us in reading and discussing some great young adult books!

Barnes and Noble

Our 2nd annual Barnes and Noble night was a success! We had 16 teachers attend and too many students to count. Our chamber orchestra and Sounds of the Knights choir were fabulous. People in the store who weren't associated with North Arvada commented on how great our music programs are! We even had some brave souls sing solos and duets. The school still gets profits if you buy books through this weekend and mention North Arvada - so keep shopping! Some students will be there Sunday afternoon from 3-7 doing gift wrapping to raise money for a summer trip. Come out and support us!

Banned Book Week

Celebrate your first amendment rights this week by reading a book you love. One of the great things about living in America is that we have rights of intellectual freedom. We, and our parents, get to decide what we should and can read. Some great books have been challenged or banned through the years - including a lot of classics that are a big part of our culture. Don't read a book just because someone challenged it, but read something you enjoy, and enjoy that you have the freedom to pick what that is.

Happy Fall!

Fall is definitely on its way. Leaves are changing and nights are getting cooler. North Arvada students are still reading - and reading a lot. We're up to almost 50o books and over 30 million words read so far this year. Keep on reading! Next week is Banned Book Week. Celebrate your freedom to read by choosing a great book.

You may have seen our growing ice cream cone in the hallway outside the library. We are tracking how many books North Arvada students have read this year. We are already over 200! Every time you pass an AR quiz, you help add to the cone. Keep reading and watch our yummy measure grow!

This Wednesday (September 10th) is early release. As always, the library is not open after school because the teachers are all in professional development meetings. Have a great long afternoon!

New School Year

So the beginning of the year craziness is finally starting to settle down and it's back to routine on the library blog. A few changes in the library this year - we're open before school from 815-8:30 and after school until 4. On Fridays, we close at 3:45. We're still open at lunch too. Students need passes to come in before school and at lunch. After school, just come on in. We've already got in some new books, so check out the covers on the right and come by the library to read 'em. The year is off to a good start and I look forward to meeting all our new students and seeing the familiar faces from last year spending some time in the library.
